Love Lessons and Sexercise

Happy Valentine's Day!! Here are some thoughts to keep the flame in your sex life while keeping your workouts on track.

The Kama Sutra has awesome guidance for the actual act of sex but you need to be in shape for it! There are a few things to consider when you want to improve your love life and have great sex. Endurance, strength and flexibility are crucial to an active and happy sex life. Lucky for you I have some great ideas to get you ready.

For anything you want to do well you are going to need a certain amount of stamina, this can be accomplished with aerobic exercise. Cardiovascular exercise will not only increase your endurance it also strengthens the heart. There's no mistake why though, cardio works the heart chakra and all of the associated muscles. Aerobic activity also has the added benefit of increasing endorphins and other feel good brain chemicals. When your heart is well conditioned and you are feeling that endorphin rush you are more receptive to feeling love and compassion. On an energetic level your heart expands and becomes more powerful and capable of sustaining relationships!

Increase stamina by increasing cardiovascular exercise events weekly. Begin a program that increases intensity over time. If you are used to a brisk 20 minute walk three days a week, up your game and increase to 5 days a week adding five to ten minutes to your time. Then gradually work up to a light jog and maybe a run after you've become comfortable with the jog. The idea is that the 45 minute to 1 hour time spent sweating it out at a full run, is going to make it that much easier to sustain love making session for the same amount of time.

Next you want to focus on core strength not just to support back muscles but for the abdominal muscles (abdominus rectus) that attach to the pubic symphysis. The pubic symphysis is very close to the clitoris and vulva. Certain exercises have been known to stimulate the clitoris as well as build abdominal strength and definition.

Development of the muscles here will also begin stimulating life force or energy to the third chakra or solar plexus. This is important in as it develops self-esteem and your ability to feel worthy in relationships and it also has has a grounding effect as this muscle group runs the length of the torso and wraps into the pubic symphysis and vulva which are located near the root chakra (the chakra responsible for grounding, survival and finding a life-long mate).

Breathing is important to all exercise but most important in getting your abdominals strong. To work ab muscles and get a bit more flexibility try rolling the spine in hip lifts. Lie flat on your back with feet flat on the floor about 12 inches away from your buttocks. Breathing deeply allow the abdomen to expand as you inhale and drop when you exhale. Now try exaggerating the drop during exhale by deeply contracting and pulling the abdominus rectus and transverse abdominis back toward the spine. You should feel your spine push into the floor. Do this with every exhale.

Perform the breathing with the cross over ab exercise. For beginners, in the same position extend your right leg out (left leg is bent and foot still on the floor), right hand behind your head and left arm extends. Now reach the left hand up as you lift your right leg up and touch the right toe. Repeat 15 times and then switch sides. For intermediate to advanced exercisers try to extend right leg out and left leg up and alternate touching toes with opposite hands. To increase intensity gradually widen your range of motion for 15 reps.

Finally for women, working the walls of your vagina during Kegel exercises is a fantastic way to strengthen your pelvic floor and vagina. The vagina is close to the root chakra whose function plays an important role in choosing the "right" person or soul mate. Keeping it strong and flexible will help you ultimately make good choices in relationships.

Try a spinal roll with hip lifts and Kegels at the same time. This exercise will work your gluteal complex, hamstrings, abs and vagina (via Kegels). For beginners lie flat on your back with arms by your sides and feet flat on the floor, squeeze buttocks and vagina at the same time as you exhale and begin peeling your tailbone up off the floor, tilting the pelvis and continue rolling up the spine until only the backs of your shoulders are supporting your body weight, all while contracting the vagina throughout the move. Stop take a short breath and slowly exhale as you roll your spine back down into a fully supine position with back flat on the floor then release the Kegel. For intermediate to advanced exercisers try adding weight to your hips or raising your feet on a platform. Repeat 15-30 times.

Knowing how to support your body best for those things that are important to you like sex, will help you feel more, enjoy more and stay in LOVE for a very long time.. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
